KRIS TYRPAK AND ANDRE LIMA GOALS HELP FUEL THE BOLD'S COMEBACK

Austin, TX (September 29, 2019) Austin Bold FC came from behind to defeat Portland Timbers 2 by a scoreline of 1-2 at Providence Park. Portland took the lead in the first half courtesy of a Harold Hanson goal. Second half goals from Kris Tyrpak and Andre Lima helped fuel a comeback to give The Bold a crucial three points on the road. Austin fights to retain a spot in the playoffs in a congested USL Championship Western Conference with three consecutive road matches to end the 2019 season.

Portland Timbers 2 struck first in the 25' with a Hanson goal. Midfielder Eryk Willamson received the ball near the center circle and delivered a cutting through pass to Hanson. The Portland fullback first timed a right footed shot to the top right corner past goalkeeper Diego Restrepo to give the home side the lead. The Bold created chances but couldn't draw the match level by halftime.

The Bold found an equalizer through Tyrpak in the 64'. Xavi Baez's through ball down the sideline played Sean McFarlane JR into space near Portland's 18-yard box. McFarlane sent a lofting ball to the back post for Tyrpak to nod into the bottom left corner.

Lima scored the game-winner at the 84' mark. After clearing dangerous chances from a Portland corner kick, Baez launched a counter-attack with a pass to Ema Twumasi. A clever interchange between Twumasi and McFarlane set up George Acosta for a cushioned lay off to Lima. The Brazilian striker hit a right footed shot from outside the box that took a deflection off Portland defender Adrian Diz Pe to send it past goalkeeper Jake Leeker.

The Bold ended the night with all three points and kept Austin's Own in a playoff spot.

After the match, Austin midfielder Tyrpak spoke of the importance of this road victory.

"The team showed a lot of good today coming back from 1-0. For us, this is huge. We struggled all year on the road. With these last four away games before the playoffs, it's huge for us to gain some momentum on the road."

Tyrpak also spoke of his role as an impact substitute throughout the season.

"Being able to come up and contribute right away is huge. You have to play your role in the team. Wherever the coach needs you, that's where you need to play. I've done very well this year off the bench, and hopefully, I can continue to score some more goals this year."

Next up, Austin Bold FC head to Zions Bank Stadium to take on Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday (10/5) at 2:00 PM. Watch this match, and every USL Championship match, on ESPN+!
