GUSTAVO RISSI'S FIRST GOAL HELP THE BOLD TO ROAD DRAW

Austin, TX (September 7, 2019) Austin Bold FC came from behind to draw Colorado Springs Switchbacks 1-1 at Weidner Field on Saturday night. A first half goal from Cesar Romero gave the home side the lead going into halftime, while The Bold struggled to create scoring chances. The Switchbacks had an opportunity to double their lead after being awarded a penalty kick for a handball infraction. Diego Restrepo saved the attempt from the spot and the follow-up. Bold debutant Gustavo Rissi scored from a corner to draw the match level. The Bold got close to finding a gamewinner but had to settle for a point on the road.

Throughout the first half, both sides struggled to create meaningful chances. Colorado Springs broke the deadlock late in the first half with a Romero goal in the 40'. Tucker Bone's through ball found a streaking Fernando Delphin down the right wing. Delphin delivered a low cross to an unmarked Romero, who smashed a right footed shot to the high center of the goal to give the home side the advantage.

The Bold came back from halftime aggressive. Demar Phillips connected with Andre Lima twice in the first fifteen minutes, but the Brazilian couldn't convert. A lengthy lightning delay didn't stop The Bold's momentum as they continued to create dangerous chances.

Referee Calin Radosav awarded the Switchbacks a penalty in the 65' for a handball against Ema Twumasi. Restrepo saved Jordan Burt's penalty kick attempt and the follow up from Bone to keep Austin's deficit at one.

Rissi leveled the match in his first appearance for The Bold in the 70' from a Sonny Guadarrama corner. The defender on loan from Cruzeiro made a smart near-post run and headed home the set piece opportunity. Both sides searched for gamewinners, but the night ended with a shared point.

After the match, Rissi spoke of his time in Austin and his first goal with The Bold.

"I'm very happy here in Austin. Since the first day I arrived, I was welcomed by the team, by the coaching staff, and the front office. I'm happy that everything is going well and that I was able to contribute on the field."

The Bold are back at Bold Stadium on 9/11 to take on Sacramento Republic FC at 7:30 PM CT. Get your tickets here!
