Austin, TX (July 13, 2019) Austin Bold FC defeated Orange County SC 3-2 at Bold Stadium in Austin, TX on Saturday night. Set piece goals from Andre Lima and Sean McFarlane gave The Bold an early lead. OCSC quickly halved Austin's advantage with an Edson Alvardo goal. The away team then found an equalizer through Michael Seaton. Second half substitute Kris Tyrpak scored the game-winner in stoppage time to give the home side all three points and raise them temporarily into 4th place in the USL Championship Western Conference.
Lima scored early for the Bold in the 10' with a set piece opportunity. Promise Isaac's header from an Edson Braafheid corner kick ricocheted off Orange County SC defender Leonardo and into the path of Lima. The Brazilian poked the ball past goalkeeper Aaron Cervantes to make it 1-0.
Another corner kick doubled The Bold's lead in the 21' through Sean McFarlane Jr. Once again, an Edson Braafheid delivery was poorly cleared by the Orange County defense. The ball landed to McFarlane at the top of the box who smashed it into the bottom left corner with a right footed shot.
Alvardo got the visitors on the board in the 27'. OCSC fullback Joseph Amico chipped a lofted ball over The Bold backline to an unmarked Alvardo to head it past Austin goalkeeper Diego Restrepo. Orange County found an equalizer in the second half with a 67' goal by Seaton from a successful counter-attack. Second half substitute Kevin Coleman's low hard cross set up Seaton for a right footed shot into the center of the net.
Tyrpak scored the game-winner two minutes into stoppage time. After a barrage of corner kicks, The Bold took the lead from another set piece. Cervantes punched away Sonny Guadarrama's corner. Defender Jermaine Taylor lifted the ball back into the box to a Tyrpak, who smashed home a left footed shot to the top right corner. Orange County SC couldn't find another goal in the dying minutes giving Austin Bold FC the win and all three points.
After the game, Austin Bold FC Head Coach Marcelo Serrano spoke of The Bold's depth and the vital roles of every member of his squad.
"It's great to have Tyrpak on the bench for the final minutes of the game, but we can not forget the other players that had brilliant games. Congratulations to Tyrpak and Sonny, but congratulations to Lima and Kleber and Promise as well. Having this depth lets me do many things and helps the team."
Next up, Austin's Own travels to Phoenix to take on USL Western Conference leaders Phoenix Rising on Friday night. The Bold is back at Bold Stadium the following Saturday against Fresno FC at 7:30 PM CT.
