Austin, TX (June 1, 2019) Austin Bold FC defeated Tulsa Roughnecks FC 2-3 at ONEOK Field in Tulsa, OK. Saturday's victory was the first road win for The Bold in franchise history. The Bold fell behind 2-0 by goals from Christhian Altamirano and Janu Silva, but a second half hat trick from Bold substitute Kris Tyrpak helped the visiting team take home all three points. Tyrpak's hat trick was the first in Austin Bold FC franchise history and his first goals of the 2019 USL Championship season.
Tulsa Roughnecks FC took an early lead in the 17' through an Altamirano goal. Despite The Bold having over 70% of possession at the time, intelligent link-up play between Altamirano and Tulsa striker Rodigro da Costa opened up Altamirano for an acute-angled shot. The ball dinked off the near post and into the back of the net.
The home side doubled their lead early in the second half with a 48' goal from Silva. An attempted clearance from Bold defender Sean McFarlane fell into the path of Silva, who dribbled around goalkeeper Diego Restrepo to make the scoreline 2-0.
The Bold struggled to create clear chances, but their fortunes changed for the better with the introduction of Tyrpak in the 53'. On a counter attack, a long crossfield pass from Kleber found Tyrpak in space just inside the box. Roughnecks goalkeeper Mason Stajduhar struggled to handle the Dripping Springs, TX native's powerful shot and bobbled the ball over the line to cut the lead in half.
Tyrpak quickly drew the game level in the 69'. After a quick succession of turnovers around the Tulsa Roughnecks' box, the ball found it's way to McFarlane. The Bold player delivered a long looping cross, and a clever cut from Tyrpak helped him create space away from his defender to volley home the equalizer past a diving Stajduhar.
Tyrpak completed his hat trick and sealed The Bold victory in stoppage time. The Tulsa Roughnecks defense couldn't properly deal with a long ball from Jermaine Taylor with a clearance that landed to Calum Mallace. Mallace's layoff pass to Trypak set up a powerful outside the box shot to the bottom left corner. The 90+2' goal helped Austin Bold FC gain their first road win in franchise history.
Tyrpak's hat trick helped propel The Bold to all three points, but the forward was quick to emphasize the entire team's performance.
"Not only was it a hat trick, but it was my first goals of the season. It is always positive to be on the board. The team showed a lot of heart today to come back from 2-0 down. We played well the whole game; just things weren't happening for us. We were unlucky in the first half. The second half we turned it on and played really well."
