A LATE HEADER FROM QUDUS LAWAL SEPARATES THE TWO SIDES

Austin, TX (May 22, 2019) Austin Bold FC fell to Fresno FC 1-0 at Chukchansi Park in Fresno, CA to end their two-game five day California road trip. A late looping header off the crossbar from Fresno FC striker Qudus Lawal in the 84' was the only thing separating the two USL Championship Western Conference foes in a feisty Wednesday night match.

Fresno FC started the match strong calling The Bold's backline into action multiple times. Austin Bold FC goalkeeper Diego Restrepo was up for the task, making saves to keep The Foxes off the scoresheet. Restrepo showed his quality with a double save in the 9'; a collision between Lawal and Jermain Taylor gave Fresno FC striker Christian Chaney a one on one with Restrepo. The Bold keeper was quick off his line to snuff out Chaney's initial attempt and the second from Jackson.

Both sides struggled to capitalize on chances throughout the match. Fresno almost scored in the 70' through Jaime Chavez. A through ball from Juan Pablo Chaffa slipped through The Bold backline to find Chavez, who's shot whizzed just wide of the post. Austin Bold FC couldn't convert a free kick in the 77' as midfielder Xavi Baez sent a ball into the box which met a leaping Sean McFarlane JR. The defender made contact but sent the ball over the bar.

Fresno FC found the game-winner through a late header from Lawal in the 84'. Diego Casillas's cut away from goal gave himself the inch of space needed to deliver a chipped ball towards Lawal. The Nigerian striker twisting header hit underneath the crossbar and bounced into the net. The Bold couldn't find an equalizer, and the home side ended the night with all three points.

Austin Bold FC Head Coach Marcelo Serrano was disappointed with the result but looks forward to the next match.

"The team fought hard tonight. Coming off a very physical OCSC game last Saturday and playing against another physical team (Fresno FC) in poor wet field conditions was rough on our squad. We are undefeated at home, and we have a match this Saturday against New Mexico United to keep that winning streak alive."

Austin Bold FC are back at Bold Stadium this Saturday against USL Championship Western Conference leaders New Mexico United at 7:30 PM CT. Come cheer on The Bold as they defend their home unbeaten streak. Tickets are available here
