GOALS FROM SONNY GUADARRAMA AND ANDRE LIMA SEND ABFC TO 3RD ROUND

Austin, TX (May 15, 2019) Austin Bold FC defeated Tulsa Roughnecks FC 2-0 at Bold Stadium in Austin, TX in the club's first Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match. Goals from Sonny Guadarrama and Andre Lima helped the side seal its place in the 3rd round of the knockout tournament. The result continues ABFC's unbeaten record at Bold Stadium, which started on March 30th against San Antonio FC.

Austin Bold FC Head Coach Marcelo Serrano's side started the match strong, controlling 60% of the possession in the first half which forced Tulsa Roughnecks deep into their defensive half.  Kleber Giacomazzi took advantage of the prolonged possession, and created the most dangerous chances with two shots, in the 6' and 11'. Tulsa Roughnecks defenders blocked the first and Tulsa goalkeeper Mason Stajduhar saved the second.

The visitors almost got on the scoreboard through an outside the box free kick by midfielder Akeil Barrett in the 21' that hit the post. Austin defenders closed down rushing Roughnecks to eliminate a threat of a quick goal.

ABFC pulled ahead 1-0 with a goal from Guadarrama in the 33'. Kleber pushed along a pass from fullback Sean McFarlane Jr that neutralized the defender and found a streaking Guarramma. The Austin native tucked away his chance to put the home team in the lead.

Austin Bold FC doubled their lead through Brazilian forward Andre Lima in the 74'. After finding dangerous space from a Beto Avila pass, McFarlane drove a hard low cross into the box that perfectly found Lima. The forward only had to redirect the ball to put it into the back of the net. The two goals proved too much for Tulsa Roughnecks FC, who couldn't muster a response.

Tuesday night marked the professional debut for 18-year old Austin native Avila. The forward signed for Austin Bold FC the previous month on an academy contract. The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match was Avila's first time making the game-day squad. Avila, along with Julian Gaines, demonstrates ABFC commitment to giving local youth players valuable professional experience.

Austin Bold FC will play local rivals San Antonio FC in the 3rd round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Bold Stadium May 29th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are available for all upcoming Austin Bold FC matches  here or by calling (512) 872-8700.
