AN OWN GOAL FROM JERMAINE TAYLOR ENDS ABFC'S UNBEATEN STREAK

Austin, TX (May 5, 2019) Austin Bold FC fell to LA Galaxy II, 1-0, at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, CA on Saturday night. An own goal from centerback Jermaine Taylor ended ABFC's three-match unbeaten streak.

LA Galaxy II started on the front foot from the opening whistle, forcing goalkeeper Diego Restrepo into an early save in the 1'. A poor pass from defender Amobi Okugo gifted LAGII attacker Frank Lopez an easy cutback pass leading to a strike from Ethan Zubak. A quick reaction from Restrepo kept Los Dos from an early goal.

The home team was denied once again in the 16'.  A strong shot from Zubak forced Restrepo into another big save after a clever movement opened up The Bold defense.

Austin Bold FC struggled in the attacking third. Brazilian forward Andre Lima had the team’s best chance with a 20-yard strike that skimmed over the crossbar. A lack of clinical finishing and a solid LA Galaxy II defense kept the visitors from scoring.

Los Dos scored in the 56’ through an own goal from Taylor. A low driving cross from Zubak forced Restrepo into a diving save which deflected into an onrushing Taylor. The defender bobbled the ball into the back of the net.

ABFC responded positively after going down but couldn’t find the final ball to tie the game.

Local 16-year old Austin product Julian Gaines made his professional playing debut for Austin Bold FC, replacing Thomas de Villardi in the 59’.

“It’s an amazing feeling. I wouldn’t want to make my debut for any other team. I’m extremely happy to finally be able to make it on the field. We had an unlucky result, but we'll keep moving forward” said Gaines.

Saturday night was Gaines fourth time making Austin Bold FC's bench. He was an unused substitute for the other three matches.

“It was a tough few months, but I loved all of it,” said Gaines. “I was working hard. My teammates were pushing me. I feel like I’m in the best environment right now in order to succeed and so it’s been amazing. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”

Austin Bold FC are back at Bold Stadium to take on OKC Energy FC Friday night (May 10) at 7:30 pm CT.
